Gabriel Faure took inspiration from Charles Baudelaire's poem of the same name when he composed "Chant d'Automne," interpreted here on double bass and piano by Craig Hamblin of Seattle, WA and Joy Novak of Portland, OR. The poem on which the song is based can be found in Baudelaire's most famous work, "Les Fleurs du Mal" ("The Flowers of Evil"). Craig and Joy each learned their parts from their respective homes in the fall of 2020 -- during the height of the Covid 19 pandemic -- when social distancing was still at its peak in the Pacific Northwest. Until they recorded their parts and assembled this video in early 2021, they had never heard what they actually sounded like when playing it together.
