India has achieved a remarkable milestone in defence exports in Financial Year 2022-23. The exports have reached an all-time high of approximately Rs 16,000 crore. ‘Aatmanirbharta in Defence’ has risen by Rs 3,000 crore more than the previous financial year. The financial year 2022-23 has also witnessed a rise of over 10 times since 2016-17. In a major achievement, India has now expanded its defence exports to more than 85 countries. Ministry of Defence has taken numerous steps to achieve ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence and Positive Indigenisation Lists. Indian industry has shown its capabilities in the sector, with 100 firms exporting defence products at present. The participation of 104 countries in Aero India 2023 is evidence of India’s growing defence manufacturing capabilities. Taking to Twitter, PM Modi described the achievement as a clear manifestation of enthusiasm towards ‘Make in India.’ Defence Minister Rajnath Singh termed record defence exports as a remarkable achievement of the country. Centre has taken a number of initiatives and brought reforms over the years to give a push to defence exports. Export procedures have been made industry-friendly with end-to-end online export authorisation curtailing delays.
