Before you update anything you should make a backup of your WordPress files and your WordPress MySQL database. You should do this just in case something goes wrong, which happens from time to time. The learning curve to how to update WordPress manually is quite low. You'll know when it's time to upgrade WordPress because you'll see an alert box at the top of the every admin page on your website that says you can update to the latest WordPress version. You will see a link in the alert box that says "Please update now." Click that link to go to the update page. On the update page you can click on the blue Update Now button or you can download the file package and update WordPress manually. In this tutorial we're only covering the easy update method using the Update Now button. Once you click the Update Now button WordPress will work it's magic and update all relevant files. It will also tell you if anything went wrong during the Wordpress upgrade, which is quite rare these days. To update themes all you have to do is hover over Appearance and then click on Themes. Any themes that have an update available will have an orange banner over their tile and text saying Update Available. You then click on Theme Details and you will see a blue link with the text Update Theme. Click on that to start the theme updating process. It is just as quick and painless as updating the WordPress core files. To update your plugins all you need to do is click on the Plugins link in the left hand admin menu. Any plugins that have an update available will have an orange background. To update a plugin simply click on the Update link below the plugin description. Depending on your WordPress version the update will happen without taking you to another page. If you are taken to another page then you have to click on the Update button on that page.
