ALBANIA SURPRISED US We arrived in Albania for the first time. Landed on Tirana airport, rented a car and drove to the south of the country, to the one of the most popular places: Saranda. Southern Albania boasts a variety of stunning touristic destinations. The Albanian Riviera, with its crystal-clear waters and beautiful beaches like those in Dhërmi and Ksamil, attracts sun-seekers and nature enthusiasts. The ancient city of Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers a glimpse into the region's rich history with its well-preserved ruins. Gjirokastër, another UNESCO site, is famed for its Ottoman-era architecture and the imposing Gjirokastër Fortress.
