It is hard to believe but next month marks 7 years since I posted my retrofit tutorial for my front-loader NES with the Blinking Light Win. This was an amazing kit that replaced the stock 72-pin connector and cartridge mechanism with a solid piece and a better connector. It also added region-free compatibility to the system. However, the company that came out with that device has gone dark, the kits aren't available outside the 2nd hand market and they cost a fortune. Thankfully our good friends over at BlueShell 3D and Rocker Mod Gaming have developed their own take on this mod, added a few features, and kept the price pretty reasonable. Best of all it also will fix your NES forever and stops the red blinking light due to a cartridge not being read. This is the NintenDrawer. Order your NintenDrawer at https://blueshell3d.com/products/nintendrawer The NintenDrawer conversion replaces the stock tray and 72-pin connector, which can and does fatigue over time, with a fixed tray and new connector. Unlike the Blinking Light Win which had a death grip on your cartridges, the connector on the NintenDrawer has an appropriate level of tension without being impossible to remove the games. Nice! One of the reported issues with sourcing materials for the Blinking Light Win was the region-free CIC bypass chip, but thankfully the NintenDraw was able to solve that issue and maintains the ability to play either NTSC or PAL games! Installation takes about 10- to 20-minutes and it couldn't be easier. The NES uses traditional Phillips screws so thankfully you don't need a security bit to get into the casing. While you are inside your NES it would do you some good to take some compressed air and get rid of the dust rabbits that are no doubt flourishing and multiplying inside your system. Once the conversion has been made you'll be able to play games like normal, just without blowing into cartridges, trying to get the games to catch "just right" inside the pins or otherwise getting it to work. For about $50 it's an amazing conversion and for those who want to go back to stock it's easy to do; but after getting used to your games just working I really wouldn't recommend it. What do you think of the NintenDrawer? Had you heard of the Blinking Light Win? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! #Nintendo #Nintendrawer #BlinkingLightWin #NES #NESRepair #NESMod
