The next video in the series on How To Get Off The Grid For $5,000 (or less) talks about how to save on your energy bill and reduce your overall energy needs. Following the simple points in this video anyone can save money on their energy bill. These points can help anyone save money on their bills both on the grid or those who are seeking to go off the grid. And for those who are already off the grid, these points are very important. The first thing in saving energy is changing out your incandescent light bulbs and replacing them with LED light bulbs. The government has a new incentive plan which gives you the LED light bulbs for only $1 each. Shutting off the lights when you leave a room helps a lot as well. Dont leave the lights on and you will save a lot of money each month. I show a device which makes it convenient to shut off lights using a remote control. There are new motion sensing LED light bulbs which turn on the light as you enter a room and turn it off again for you automatically. This works great in a bathroom for example. You should get rid of energy hungry devices in the home as well such as the microwave and toaster oven. You can replace the coffee maker with the permanent stainless steel filter I show in the video. This can brew and entire pot of coffee or a single cup, never needs a filter and uses no energy. For people who want to get into solar power and learn about it I advise getting a small portable USB solar panel and some USB rechargeable devices. These devices have protective circuits inside them which protect them from over charging and over discharging. Combined with USB solar panels these devices are great for learning about solar power. You can charge up the devices in the sun and use them for free any time. USB rechargeable LED lights are a great idea for learning how to use solar power. You will learn to remember to turn them off when not in use or your battery will die on you and need to be recharged. This also introduces you to off grid living because you will then need to monitor your energy use. I advise getting some, or all, of the following items to help you start learning how to get off the grid and start cutting your energy bills now.
