After negative remarks about Puerto Rico were made at his Madison Square Garden (MSH) rally on in New York City on Sunday, former U.S. president Donald Trump on Wednesday commended America’s Latino and Puerto Rican population. “Nobody loves our Latino community and our Puerto Rican community more than I do,” the Republican leader said, adding that he’s “done more for Puerto Rico than any president by far" in his view. Comedian Tony Hinchliffe triggered major backlash against Trump and the Republican party after calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” and making jokes that some view as demeaning to Black Americans, Jewish people, Palestinians and Latinos. Though Trump’s campaign team issued a statement distancing him from Hinchcliffe’s comments, Trump has yet to acknowledge them publicly.
