In this video, Alex Cho discusses investment concepts when pertaining to stock market analysis, timing, and portfolio management. Given the discrepancy of reliable investment information, we wanted to provide additional insights and clarity on the topic of investing, and where investors can best position themselves. The advantages to active investment management include: 1. Flexibility with timing exits and entries. 2. Hedge investment portfolio by going long or short the market, or through stock options. 3. Manage risk during periods of excessive market volatility. 4. Time exits and entries to optimize capital gains tax. Consider these five investment concepts: 1. Valuation, are you buying shares below future value? 2. Financial analysis, can you determine the trajectory of sales and earnings? 3. Upon determining these two things, you can then determine what a business is worth. 4. Therefore, you can then purchase shares at a reasonable price, and with expectations of future profits. On technical analysis, Alex believes there are certain pricing/timing techniques that work regardless of whether you’re a short-term speculator or long-term investor. Alex doesn’t believe in buying and selling shares purely on stock patterns, technical indicators or candlestick formations. However, investors should move positions in their portfolio when it’s appropriate to lock in returns, but not with the intention of timing perfect tops and bottoms in stocks. In other words, modest adjustments on timing entries and exits at appropriate levels can optimize portfolio returns assuming the stock position is based on financial analysis and reasonable risk/reward analysis. Investing is a long-term game, and the time commitment can be scaled appropriately.
