1st VIDEO - (TRAILER) Machias was first settled in 1763. The first naval battle of the American Revolution was fought in Machias Bay. In 1775, three British ships were captured here. The British returned in 1776 for revenge. In 1777 the British came here to burn the town, but were met by Patriots and Wabanaki who pushed the redcoats out of the area for the rest of the war. This series of films will likely cover 1763-1783. The Revolutionary War Reenactors of Downeast Maine have assisted with this project.
