ETFs are bought and sold like a share through a stock exchange, hence why the name exchange-traded funds. Whereas index funds are not traded over the exchange, it may have a higher minimum investment amount, and prices are calculated slightly differently. But the fundamental concept is the same, it's just a vehicle to give investors access to a particular basket of stocks like the ASX300.
