The moralistic tales known as Aesop's fables are said to have originated with a slave and storyteller of that name who lived in Greece some time around 600 BC. The sheer volume of imagery I found has obliged me to leave out many excellent visualisations in order to keep the video a reasonable length, so please don't complain if I've left out your personal favourite. I was half way through making it before it dawned on me that not only was it to some extent a history of narrative illustration, but also an overview of the device known as anthropomorphism. Now that's what I call value for money.
