Borders are in constant motion, just like the people inhabiting African countries. The arbitrary borders created by European colonial powers have long been contested, while various visions of redrawn borders and regional free movement areas have been negotiated. National borders within regions and at the external boundaries of regional areas nevertheless remain significant. A network of African, Southern European, and Nordic scholars are currently engaged in a broader project on African borders and mobilities. Through seminars and workshops in Senegal, Morocco, Spain, Sweden, and Denmark, knowledge regarding borders and mobilities is shared, and new approaches to study these issues are discussed. This half-day seminar provides an opportunity to engage in the discussion.
