There isn't a woman anywhere who doesn't desire a Worth gown, myself included. Some adventurous ladies have even undertaken the challenge of making a Worth gown for themselves - notably Bernadette Banner and Cathy Hay, both of whom have channels well worth subscribing to. This weighty tome is filled with images and the history of Charles F. Worth who was the first of the great designers of Haute Couture. Worth had the gift and was very much over the top - nothing but the best and he charged the earth for it but he also innovated - selling kits to clients living far away and inserting patterns with instructions into only the American fashion magazines - he rightly thought less well-off ladies would appreciate being 'dressed' by him. His fashion empire went to his sons, his grandsons and his great-grandsons - finally ending in one last collection in 1954. This book is as sumptuous as Worth's gowns and I thoroughly enjoyed it - you will too.
