Road safety is a serious public health and development issue. The economic burden of road traffic crashes is huge. Globally, each year road traffic crashes claim over 1.2 million lives worldwide and are a leading cause of death among young people between 15 and 29 years. WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region has the second highest fatality rate across the world after the African Region. Deaths and injuries could be prevented through commitment, collective efforts, and the coordinated action of all concerned sectors and stakeholders to implement proven cost-effective interventions to reduce the burden.
