This week’s episode celebrates one of the most influential designers of the 1920s and 30s and one of the greatest couturiers of the 20th century… Jeanne Lanvin. Jeanne Lanvin’s career spanned 6 decades and she is perhaps best known for pioneering her signature style, the robe de style. Madame Lanvin, more than anyone else, epitomised the aesthetic of feminine beauty and elegance and her unique balance of romanticism, historicism and modernism set her apart from her contemporaries. Her identifiable characteristic included embroideries, beading, ethnographical inspiration, sublime combinations of textures and original use of colour. Throughout her career, Madame Lanvin remained at the cutting edge of fashion, producing beautiful, highly wearable and elegant clothes.
