We begin with two-factor authentication. In Steam, it's called Steam Guard. The feature is automatically activated after you verify your email address and run the Steam client twice. You can also enable it manually under Manage Steam Guard Account Security. Steam Guard codes can be sent by email, but it's handier and safer to generate one-time codes in the Steam mobile app. Incidentally, if you happened to save account credentials on someone else's computer, it's possible to log out of the account on all devices in the Steam Guard settings.
