Fashion &… Pat Cleveland MINISODE “I just wanted to be photographed no matter what colour I was” - Pat Cleveland As early as 1980, the term "supermodel" was used to describe Pat Cleveland. Her modelling career began in 1966 when she was spotted on a subway platform on her way to Fashion School by the assistant to Carrie Donovan, fashion editor at Vogue. She made her first appearance in American Vogue in June 1970 and appeared in the very first issue of Essence Magazine. Throughout the 1970s, Cleveland modelled for Karl Lagefeld at Chloé, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Stephen Burrows and Halston. In February 2019, at age 68, she walked the runway for Hellessy and Naeem Khan at New York Fashion Week and in March of the same year walked, along with her early peers Beverly Johnson and Grace Jones, in Paris for Tommy Hilfiger and Zendaya.
