This is the moment a devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Tibet’s Shigatse city. The quake hit at 9:00 am local time, with a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre. At least 95 people are confirmed dead, and 130 have been injured in the disaster. Shigatse, a holy city and home to the Panchen Lama, was severely impacted. Tremors were also felt in Nepal, Bhutan, and northern India, alarming residents. Videos show destroyed homes, collapsed buildings and rescue workers aiding the injured. Rescuers face harsh conditions, with temperatures dropping as low as -18°C overnight. Both power and water supplies in the region have been disrupted by the earthquake. Around 1,500 emergency workers are deployed, but the remote location hampers rescue efforts.
