Tesla 4680 VS Solid-State Battery Tesla 4680 is a new and advanced battery technology that allows for more electrical energy storage, thus, reducing range anxiety. The 4680 battery technology also offers a shorter path for electron flow, resulting in shortened charge time. Conversely, a solid-state battery uses a solid electrolyte rather than a liquid electrolyte like 4680. A solid-state battery promises safer and faster charging with better energy storage density. Still, it has problems with the charging cycle as it tends to fail after repeated charging and discharging, leading to packing failure. They also have issues with their scale and manufacturing cost. Right now, 4680 batteries are a viable solution until battery manufacturers can commercially produce solid-state batteries.
