BYD has officially unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the Seal 06GT, at the Chengdu Auto Show, marking a significant entry into the electric performance hatchback market. Priced at approximately $21,150 (150,000 yuan), the Seal 06GT is touted as the industry’s first rear-wheel-drive electric performance hatchback, offering an affordable yet advanced option for those seeking a sporty, electric vehicle. The BYD Seal 06GT was first introduced as the Ocean-M concept at the Beijing Auto Show in April. This concept has now materialized into a production model built on BYD’s cutting-edge e-Platform 3.0 Evo. This platform, also used in the Sea Lion 07—BYD’s smart electric sport utility vehicle rivaling the Tesla Model Y—boasts some impressive technological advancements. Notably, it includes what BYD describes as the “world’s first full scenario intelligent pulse self-heating technology,” which is designed to reduce charging times by up to 40%, even in cold temperatures. Aesthetically, the Seal 06GT features sleek, simple lines and a low-profile design, giving it a modern and sporty appearance. Inside, BYD has equipped the hatchback with a suite of smart technologies, including a 15.6-inch floating center infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch driver display, and a 12-inch head-up display. Buyers can choose between shell white and twilight blue interior color options. Under the hood, the Seal 06GT offers two powertrain options: a single-motor version with either 215 horsepower or 221 horsepower and a dual-motor variant delivering a combined 415 horsepower. The vehicle can accelerate from zero to 62 miles per hour in just 4.9 seconds. Depending on the battery size—either 72.96 kilowatt-hours or 59.52 kilowatt-hours—the Seal 06GT can achieve a range of up to 375 miles on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle.
