In September of 2021, Tesla ended their latest referral program and for the first time, no longer provided free Supercharging miles to referred customers or referrers. Since that time, Tesla has only been offering a discount on Solar to new order holders and a cash credit to referrers. A while back, code was leaked in an update to the Tesla app that showed new lines of code regarding a referral program that would allow you to use points to purchase merchandise. It seems that that new program has finally gone live and includes the ability to purchase merchandise, supercharging miles, even software updates like full self driving, enhanced autopilot and the acceleration boost. This new program rolled out yesterday and includes 6,000 "credits" for Tesla Solar Roof and Tesla Solar Panels. Both an orderer and referrer of the solar products at Tesla would receive 6,000 credits once the solar system is activated, and both could then use those points to purchase a wide variety of Tesla upgrades and merchandise. Interestingly enough, Tesla is still limiting their referral program to just the Tesla Solar business, but the website does make clear mention of cars as well. In fact, the way it is listed, Tesla states you will receive your credits after taking delivery of your car or activating you Solar system. Although this is not definitive proof that referrals are coming back to the car business, it is a good sign that it just might find its way back after all.
