Broadly speaking, you can take two approaches to trading and investing. You can look for trend and patterns in the market and trade based on them—this is called as technical analysis. Or you can look at some stocks, understand their financials, their management, analyse the sectors, the economy etc and then take a view—this is called fundamental analysis.
