Clara had a secret relationship with Rosie about a year before she and Kree met. It ended up not working out because Rosie wanted to run away with Clara to be together, but Clara was scared about leaving everything she knows, didn't want to abandon her sickly Aunt, and was worried about what societal judgement. So Rosie moved on, got engaged to a man from a faraway city, and will soon move away forever. Clara is still upset with herself that she couldn't have been more brave.
