Humboldt squid have a reputation for aggressive behaviour, although research suggests they are only aggressive during feeding times. Also known as jumbo flying squid, they can reach up to 1.5 m in length and swim up to 25 km per hour. These intelligent curious cephalopods are most commonly found in the eastern Pacific Ocean at depths of up to 700 m. From dusk to dawn, large shoals of up to 1,200 individuals will undergo diel vertical migrations, moving closer to the surface to feed on krill and small fish. They are thought to have a lifespan of 1-2 years. https://www.oceannetworks.ca/ Follow ONC on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/ocean_networks Instagram: https://instagram.com/ocean_networks Facebook: https://facebook.com/OceanNetworksCanada
