Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland spoke out in support of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday, saying he has her “full support” despite the Liberal Party’s poor performance in the recent Toronto-St. Paul’s byelection. “I know he has the full support of cabinet,” Freeland added, though she conceded that Canadians in the former Liberal stronghold had sent a message to the governing party by electing the Conservatives. Asked whether she should keep her job as deputy prime minister and finance minister amid increasing concerns about cost of living in Canada, Freeland said that is a decision for the prime minister. “There was definitely a clear message from the voters of Toronto-St. Paul’s and I think it’s really important to act on that message,” she added. Freeland said they have heard the concerns of Canadians.
